Be Active

Physical activity has a number of health benefits. Being active can help both our physical health and our mental well-being. Regular physical activity is associated with a greater sense of well-being and it helps reduces feelings of anxiety and depression. Participating in a sport or hobbies such as gardening or dancing, or just a daily stroll will keep us fit and stimulate our minds. It's essential that all of us, whatever our age or ability, participate in physical activity we enjoy and that suits us.

Some tips for being active:

Join a dance club Start jogging Start exercising, for example joining a gym
Make easy changes
Start by including activity into your normal day by getting off the bus or train a stop earlier, walking instead of taking the bus or using the car, using the stairs rather than a lift.
Taking a dog for a longer walk or joining a group of dog walkers can make it more fun.
Or take up a sport or active hobby
For example dancing, but make sure it is one that suits you and you enjoy. If you can, make this a sport or a hobby involving other people as it makes it more difficult to drop out.
Relaxation can help reduce feelings of stress
One way of keeping relaxed and feeling peaceful is to do regular exercises that teach you to slow your breathing down, like relaxation techniques. Exercises can also help you to breath more deeply, which provides extra oxygen to the blood and causes the body to release endorphins. These are chemicals which naturally occur in the body and they help us to feel happy.
